- Feet flat or tuck one in
- Shoulders over the hips, over the sit bones, over the front legs of the chair
- Violins and violas sitting at a 45-degree angle on the front right corner of your chair
- Back straight (should not be touching chair back)
- Left hand position:
- wrist straight, not collapsed
- TIPS of fingers, NOT pads, pressing string firmly into fingerboard
- thumbprint on the side of the neck for violins and violas
- thumbprint on the back of the neck for cellos and basses
- Pizzicato technique:
- thumb points down toward the floor for pizzicato
- pluck with the fleshy pad of the index finger
- play above the fingerboard, not above the gap between the fingerboard and the bridge
- Bow hold:
- Refer to the Bow Builders on pages 7, 8, and 12
- Relaxed, no tension at all
