About Mr. Summers
Since 2016, Geoffrey D. Summers has been director of instrumental music education at Benton Visual and Performing Arts Middle School in La Mirada, CA, where he teaches nearly 200 students in concert band, string orchestra, percussion ensemble, and jazz band.
Mr. Summers received his bachelor’s degree in Music Business and Management from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and his teaching credentials from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ, and Whittier College in Whittier, CA. He is currently a master’s candidate with the American Band College of Central Washington University.
Formerly, Mr. Summers was design team coordinator for the Morris Knolls High School marching band in Rockaway, NJ, and co-director of percussion education for the Jersey Surf World Class Drum Corps. Mr. Summers has also worked with George Mason University (Fairfax, VA), East Coast Jazz (Malden, MA), Carmel High School (Carmel, IN), Old Bridge High School (Old Bridge, NJ), and King Philip High School (Wrentham, MA), among others.
In addition to being an experienced teacher of instrumental music, Mr. Summers is an active musician and has toured the United States and Europe with bands such as Batillus and A Storm of Light. Currently, he plays bass in Los Angeles-based rock outfit Bronco Forte.
Mr. Summers lives with his wife Rosemary, daughter June, and their dog in Los Angeles and when he's not doing something music related you can usually find him toiling away in the kitchen or playing tabletop games.
