Mutes - Practice Your Instrument Without Disturbing Others!
Mutes significantly reduce the volume of your instrument, allowing you to practice at home without disturbing others. Perhaps you live in an apartment, maybe you live with a young baby, or perhaps a member of your family works third shift and sleeps during the day. Whatever the reason you need to practice quietly without disturbing others, this page is for you!

Woodwind Instruments
Unfortunately, there is no good, affordable way to mute woodwind instruments. Flutes and clarinets do tend to be lower volume in general compared with brass instruments, however. Woodwind students are advised to be considerate to others when choosing practice times and locations.
Percussion Instruments
Percussionists are advised to use the practice pad that came with their percussion kit when practicing at home. When practicing keyboard percussion (bells), percussionists should use softer rubber mallets rather than hard plastic mallets. Steve Weiss has an array of rubber mallets to meet your needs.
