Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
We are a month in to the 2016-2017 school year and we are off and running! All classes are off to a great start and I'm excited to lay the groundwork for many successful years to come. Please see the updated syllabus for my classes as a few changes have been made for clarity and consistency. Please note that Homework is now worth 20% of students' overall grade and Concert Reports 10% (previously Homework was 10% and Concert Reports 20%). I am happy to announce that our 2016-2017 concert dates have been confirmed: Thursday, December 8 - Concert Band, Orchestra, and Piano Holiday Concert Tuesday, May 16 - Spring Concert & Visual Arts Festival Both events will be held at Benton. Attendance for all students enrolled in my classes is mandatory and counts for 30% of students' overall grade. Please read the section in the syllabus on Performance Participation carefully: Attendance at every performance is mandatory. If there is an unresolvable conflict, Mr. Summers must be notified at least two weeks before a given performance and the student will be required to complete an additional Developmental Evaluation covering, in whole or in part, music which was to be performed at the missed concert. Students who do not give two weeks’ notice before missing a concert will be required to complete an additional Developmental Evaluation and a four‐page research paper on a topic of the teacher’s choosing. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch! Regards, Mr. Summers |
